    imperfect answer

    Hi Anand,

I dont think it is possible to get SSH from SST or SSS alone.

SSH or Dynamic height is calculating from the
    vertical temperature and salinity profiles.
SSH or Dynamic height is the vertical integral (summation)
of specific volume anomaly with reference to a 'level of
no motion'. It represents the thermal expansion of a
water coloum according to its temperature as well
as elevation associated with the wave propagation.
So you need a vertical temperature and salinity profile
    to calculate SSH.

With this consideration, I dont think there is any theoretical
background to find SSH from SST or SSS.

What I doubt is (so i called an 'imperfect answer') about the
'inverse models', where a set of parameters are assimilated
from another set of parameters. However, that hypothesis
comes with a modeling support. That you have to
    check yourself or
    someone else may talk here.

Also I should not forget to write, there are intercomparison studies
between SSH and SST have done, where the authors conclude, the
strong spatial-temporal correlation between these two parameters
permits a regression estimate of mixed layer thickness of 34-47 meters
which may give an observeds SSH signal (Leuliette and Wahr, 1999).
Thus once you establish a basic SSH from hydrographic profile, it may be
possible to estimate annual cycle of SSH from SST
with the above plausible emperical relation of SST Vs mixed layer Vs SSH.

Leuliette and Wahr: 1999, Coupled pattern analysis of SST and TOPEX/
    POSEIDON SSH, J.P.O, 599-611.

    SSH-regarding

    Hi,

As i understand that to compute dynamic height (SSH), you require both temp and salinity data. well you may kindly look into the paper attached and see if it helps you in any way.

    best wishes,
    deba

    Reply to deba

    Sir,

the paper you suggested describes the computation of DH from the tem profile which includes different depths.

i asked about the SST only, that means only one value of temperature.
if any thing regarding this please inform me

thank you for your quick reply
    thanks to vinu too

Why not ask to Dr. Bulusu

    Hi Anand,

Dr. Subrahmanyam Bulusu (I think now he is affiliated to University
of Colorado, Boulder), who are concerned with much
of the satellite oceanography. They are into establishing
    several algoriths to retrieve oceanic
parameters from satellite observations. For one example,
they produced a real-time salinity data from SSH.

If you could communicate with them, I think you may get
a better advice whether any algorithm exisist for
an SST--->SSH conversion or whether there is any
hypothesis exist on such a conversion.

Try this id, "sub]at[coaps.fsu.edu" This is his email at COAPS, FSU.
    (This may be ok).
