Junior Research Fellow (JRF) Position under SALT – SEAS Program

Applications are invited from suitable candidates to fill up one post of Junior Research Fellow in a joint research project of the Department of Space under “SARAL – Altika Science and Applications” Program entitled “Application of Altimetry (AltiKa) and Ocean Color (Oceansat II) in the studies of mesoscale features of the Southeastern Arabian Sea” funded by SAC. The position of the candidate would be starting from February 2012 to June 2014. The selected candidate would also get the opportunity to register for the Ph.D. program of Cochin University of Science and Technology, on qualifying the NET/DAT and meeting all other conditions as per CUSAT regulation.

Fellowship: (Rs. 16000/- p.m. + HRA– for 1st & 2nd year and Rs. 18000/- p.m. + HRA for the 3rd year: The HRA will be paid as per CUSAT rules).

Essential Qualification: A pass in M.Sc. (Oceanography or Meteorology) OR M. Sc. Remote Sensing with subject papers / courses covering Marine Science Applications OR M.Tech. (Ocean Technology or Atmospheric Sciences) OR M.Tech Remote Sensing with subject papers / courses covering Marine Science Applications, with a minimum 60% marks or 6.5 CGPA on a 10 point grading system.

Desirable : [A] NET Qualified [B] Proficiency in Satellite data retrieval & processing applying appropriate software packages – PRIMEWIN / SeaDAS / ENVI / alike [C] Sufficient knowledge and good background in using Ferret/GMT, MATLAB, GrADS on Linux / Windows platforms and [D] Participation in training programs related to satellite data retrieval, image processing, alike.

Age: Not more than 30 years as on 1-1-2012.

Nature of work: The selected candidate will be required to participate in boat/ship cruises for in situ observations as part of project work [holder of a valid passport].
