The Third International Workshop on Next-Generation NWP Models will be held on 29 August-1 September 2010 at Jeju, Korea.

This international conference will cover very high-resolution modeling for weather forecasting. After the 2004 meeting on the physical parameterization in NWP models (Lee and Hong 2005, BAMS), participants are expected to discuss progress in high-resolution NWP modeling for the past 6 years, and to share ideas about future challenges. The main theme is “the cloud-resolving modeling approach and beyond”. As of 2010, convection-permitting and cloud-resolving scale modeling has become practically feasible, together with the successful usage of LES in developing sub-grid scale parameterizations for these models.
  • The subjects for presentation include :
    • Current status of very high-resolution operational models
    • Advance in dynamical core and physics algorithms
    • Convection-permitting and cloud resolving scale modeling
    • Large-eddy modeling and its application
