hello deba, CDO and GRADS can convert grib files to netcdf.
From netcdf you can easily convert them to ascii using ncdump, grads, ferret, matlab, etc.

Is it a downloaded data file or a model output?

the data is a model output.

Here are examples of how you can do it. I am not sure which softwares you are familiar with.

Convert grib to netcdf in CDO:
    Code:
    cdo -f nc copy input_filename.grib output_filename.nc
Convert netcdf to ascii using NCDUMP:
    Code:
    nc2text input_filename.nc variable_name > output_filename.txt
    More details:
    CDO: http://www.mpimet.mpg.de/fileadmin/software/cdo/
    NCDUMP: http://www.narccap.ucar.edu/data/ascii-howto.html

Yes once you do the grib->nc by cdo, which is easy, converting it into ascii is not much of a problem. CDO is a very useful tool, try it out!

Hi Deba, panoply software (http://www.giss.nasa.gov/tools/panoply/) can convert grib files to ascii. This software is very easy to use. If many files, I recommend matlab, ferret or grads
