Grade RA1A £20,044 - £25,565 per annum (pay award pending)

Full-time, fixed-term for up to 3 years – start date 1 November 2006

Applications are invited for a post-doctoral research fellowship to work on a NERC funded project on Biophysical Coupling in the Upper Ocean, at the University of Reading. The project aims to determine feedbacks between turbulent mixing, plankton and absorption of solar radiation in the upper ocean. The results will be used to develop parameterization schemes for use in state of the art climate models.

The post will be held in the RAE 5* Department of Meteorology at the University of Reading, working with Professor Stephen Belcher and scientists from the National Centre for Atmospheric Science (NCAS) based in the department. The research fellow will have the opportunity to work closely with two PhD Students also working on the project

Candidates for should have, or soon hope to obtain, a PhD in physical or mathematical science, preferably in an oceanic or atmospheric science. Research experience of fluid dynamics of turbulent flow would be a distinct advantage.

Informal enquiries should be directed to Professor Stephen Belcher, s.e.belcher[at]reading.ac.uk
