A postdoctoral research associate position is available in the Department of Earth and Atmospheric Sciences, University at Albany/SUNY.
The title and subject of the project is Shallow Meridional Circulation and Saharan Heat Low: Their Roles in the Tropical Atlantic Variability.
This is a collaborative effort with Co-PIs: Chris Thorncroft (SUNY at Albany) and Chidong Zhang (CIMAS/RSMAS, Miami). A summary of the project is included at the end of this announcement. This work will contribute to NOAA’s CLIVAR Atlantic Program.
The successful applicant will be expected to carry out diagnostic studies to explore the nature of the shallow meridional circulations over the continent and tropical Atlantic. Emphasis will be given to improving our understanding of these circulations, and their role in influencing the seasonal cycle and interannual variability of the tropical Atlantic.
The appointment is planned for 2 years with the possibility for a third year. A PhD in atmospheric science/meteorology is required. Preference will be given to applicants with a thorough understanding of large-scale tropical dynamics and with experience with analyzing large datasets (e.g. global reanalyses) and observations. More details can be obtained through the contact information below.
Application Deadline: Applications will be accepted until the position is filled.
Salary: Negotiable, commensurate with experience
