Hi, all!

Here is another suggestion about oceanographers.net. There is a lot of posts with announcements of conferences and PhD positions, but after several days (or hours:) they disappear from the front page and it is hard to find them. I mean that there is no mechanism to automatically search through announcements. Is it hard to create (additional to usual post way) some kind of form with fields such as “Country”, “Deadline”, “University” and so on with possibility to search through. Is anyone except me interested in this?

Hi koldunovn,

This suggestion is actually came from many other members
as their comment to the Annual report-2005 (will release soon).

This is mainly due to the reason that most of the members
depend on the first page (home) to find new postings.
However the front page can contain only limited
number of postings (with limited information) and it
may dissappear at any period of time as new one replaces
it.

It is unfortunate to say that, at present, we cant do any
thing for this (that means to keep posting from particular
forum in home page for long time). The sugestion we put forward
to its members is to search through the forum link dispalyed at the
top panel, and reach each category to find new postings.

Now, coming to your new suggestion, it is possible to
create sub-forums inside the Opportunity section and
make the posting depend ing on Country, Dead line and University.

At the begining we actually thought to make categories based
on Graduate, PhD and PostDoc positions. However, since it was
unclear that time, we set this style as a starting.

I think, Admin will add his comments/action on feasibility of new
suggestions from you.

-Thanks

Hi, Vinu

I meant something different from usual posting, even if it divided in categories. I suggest to create the Database independent from forum (it require, I guess, installing some new soft on the server). Users can post positions in “opportunities” and in this Database, or records in Database can be created by moderator (if user forget or don’t want to do this). What do you think about it?

yes. its a good idea to divide the posts in to fileds of a data base. so that we can search with those fields like year or University or country may be by deadline too. It will be useful to moderators for deleting outdated posts.
