Position: Assistant Climate Modeler - Illinois State Water Survey,
Announcement #06-05

Availability: January 15, 2006
This position will contribute to an exploratory program to apply
regional climate modeling toward the advancement of seasonal climate
prediction. Primary job responsibilities will include the development
of model code, the preparation of global and regional data sets for
model initialization and lateral boundary conditions, the running of
regional climate model simulations, the diagnostic analyses of model
output, and the preparation of graphical and written summaries of
results. Initial funding for 2 years is expected to be available.

Qualifications: Ph.D. in atmospheric sciences or related field, or M.S.
in atmospheric sciences or related field with 3 years of relevant
experience. Proficiency (including extensive coding experience) in
using C and PERL programming languages in UNIX, FORTRAN 77 and 90, Linux
and Windows environments. Experience in running mesoscale regional
weather/climate models. Experience with diagnostic analysis of data
from global and/or regional climate model simulations. Experience with
graphical programs. Strong aptitude for working in a team environment
and willingness to work in a support role. Strong verbal and written
communication skills.
