Postdoctoral Research Associate in Ocean Data Assimilation.

The Department of Earth & Planetary Sciences, Johns Hopkins University,
invites applications for one, or more, postdoctoral research associates.
The successful candidate will participate in a federally-funded project
to investigate and apply data assimilation to the circulation and
stratification of the subpolar North Atlantic ocean. The project is a
collaborative venture with the Department of Applied Mathematics and
Statistics and the Applied Physics Laboratory at Johns Hopkins. Further

will be an outstanding individual with a recent Ph.D. in physical
oceanography with interests in applied mathematics, or vice versa, but
applicants in related fields will also be considered. Knowledge in the
following areas is advantageous: 4D variational assimilation, Kalman
filtering, North Atlantic subpolar circulation, and numerical general
circulation models. The nominal start date is January 2006, with
completion of the Ph.D. required by the beginning of the appointment.
The duration of the appointment is up to three years and more than one
appointment may be made. The position carries a competitive salary and
fringe benefits, and eligibility to participate in Johns Hopkins
