Applications are invited for a research associate position to work with
the Junior Research Group IMPULSE (Integrated Modelling and Planning
Support linked to the Sea and Coastal Environments), at the ICBM
(Institute of Chemistry and Biology of the Sea, University of Oldenburg,
Germany).
The position is available immediately, and will be open until filled.
The appointment is offered initially until 31.03.2008, with possibility
of extension based on availability of funding. Salary is based on the
German BAT IIa/2 level (corresponding to a Ph.D. position).
The junior research group IMPULSE aims at developing of Decision Support
Systems (DSS) for use and protection of the habitat coast. In
co-operation with scientific institutes, authorities and the commerce we
are engaged in management questions within the coastal range and
harmonize them by means of mathematical modelling procedures, expert
knowledge and modern information technology.
The successful candidate will be involved in estimation of ecological
consequences of oil-spill at sea using integrated oil drift models.
This model will be later integrated into a DDS, which is essential for
socio-economic evaluation of different intervention possibilities.
The successful candidate will be a highly motivated individual with a
degree in environmental sciences, if possible in marine sciences.
Experience in mathematical modelling and strong interest in application
orientated interdisciplinary work are required. Some knowledge in the
development and use of decision support systems could be of advantage.
Good ability to communicate English and/or German is required.
