RESEARCHER RADAR METEOROLOGY (RMI, Belgium)

The Observations Department of the Royal Meteorological Institute of
Belgium is seeking to appoint a scientist from 1 january 2006 for a
four-year research project in the field of radar meteorology. The aim
of the project is to improve radar precipitation estimates through an
optimal exploitation of the vertical profiles of reflectivity (VPR)
measured by the radar. The combined use of VPR information from multiple
radars together with mesoscale Numerical Weather Prediction forecast
will be also investigated. The final goal is the implementation of an
operational correction scheme for improving real-time radar
precipitation estimates.

Your profile :

* University degree (Master) or PhD in engineering or in physical,
mathematical or atmospheric sciences.
* Research experience in meteorology or related fied and a practical
experience in data analysis is highly recommended.
* Excellent programming skills (Fortran, C, ...), good knowledge of
Unix/Linux and familiarity with visualization tools (IDL, Matlab,
...).
* Fluent in oral and written english. Knowledge of french and/or
dutch is a plus.
