NERC e-Science Studentship in Chemistry and Computing University of
Leeds

Intelligent Infrastructure to Support the Atmospheric Composition
Community

A NERC-funded e-Science studentship is available to start in January
2006 working under the guidance of Prof Mike Pilling (School of
Chemistry) and Prof Peter Dew (School of Computing). To be eligible for
a full scholarship, you need to be a UK/EU citizen or a permanent
resident who has been resident in the UK for the past 3 years.

This project will involve the development, evaluation and validation of
computing infrastructure and methodologies to support research
communities in Reaction Kinetics, Atmospheric and Environmental
Chemistry. These communities require global collaboration in the sharing
of data and computational resources to develop predictive models for
chemical reaction systems. It is envisaged that GRID computing will be
used in part of the underlying infrastructure. Full details of the
project may be found at:

http://www.comp.leeds.ac.uk/pkj/nerc1.shtml

The successful applicant will have a good first degree or a Masters
degree in a relevant discipline and eligible students will receive an
annual maintenance grant of 16000 pounds plus fees. It is not
necessarily expected that the successful candidate will have a
background in both distributed computing and atmospheric science.
However it will be necessary to demonstrate a willingness and an ability
to acquire new skills across more than one discipline.

To apply for this studentship please send a completed postgraduate
research application form
along with a short cv to

Professor Mike Pilling,
School of Chemistry, University of Leeds, LS2 9JT. For informal
enquiries or further information during this period, you may contact

Professor Mike Pilling (email: m.j.pilling@leeds.ac.uk or
