please read dynamics and modeling of ocean waves by Komean et al 1994. cambridge uni. press. This is the most fundamental book on ocean waves.
you can also see WAMDI 1988 paper published in jpo.
also noaa wavewatch III site for wavewatch mannual. Though wavewatch III is different from WAM, basic equation is same for both models. I hope you need basic idea of wave modeling. which wavewatch III mannual will be able to provide.
