Hi all

i am in need of some software that can plot the sound rays propagating in the ocean, viz ray tracing softwares. it will be very helpful if anyone can come up with some information regarding the same.

Matlab is the best way to use. Otherwise if you have binary data then use IDL (you need to write own codes).by the way there are inbuilt function are there for 2D or 3D plots.

I could not understand what you mean by ray tracing . Infact Ray tracing is itself a different approach to create images. By reading a text file containing info about objects and lighting in a scene and generates that scene from a view point of camera, also described in the text file. If this is what you want then POV-Ray is a state of the art software which can be freely downloaded for windows and unix platforms.
