note: You may need to register (http://www.oceanographers.net/forums/register.php?) to Post/Reply threads, contact
other users, modify user profile, view and download attachments,
see member details etc. Register and join here (http://www.oceanographers.net/forums/register.php?). Registration is
free and easy.

Since the forums and other functions of the website may not be
familiar to many, it may be difficult to use it for the first few times.
Once you get accustomed to it, everything will be easy.
If you have any doubts in posting or replying to threads, please
contact the moderators (http://www.oceanographers.net/forums/showgroups.php?).

'Forums (http://www.oceanographers.net/forums/index.php?)' is the main section in this site were the discussions go on
and articles are posted. In the Forums, there are a number of
forums on each specific topic. You can get into this forum by
clicking on the respective links.

Posting Messages/Threads
Now, if you have a new information to provide, for example in
Research/Job Opportunities,
Go to Research/Job Opportunities through the Research Opportunities
link in the front page or Forums -> Research/Job Opportunities.
Then inside Research/Job Opportunities you will see a button
"New Thread" Click on it and you will get a page to fill in the
information. Now after that, click on "Submit new thread". You are done!

Replying to Messages/Threads
Interaction and discussion is what is meant on this website.
If you want to reply to an information someone posted or you
want to know more or discuss it, Go to the specific post you want
to reply and click on "Post Reply" button. Rest is taken care of!

Editing your own posts
Any threads posted by you can be edited by yourself.
Use the "Edit" button under your post.

If you want to remove any of your posts completely, please
ask one of the moderators (http://www.oceanographers.net/forums/showgroups.php?).

Please add your details in your Profile for the database and
effective communication between members.

Go to UserCP (http://www.oceanographers.net/forums/usercp.php?) -> Edit Profile
Go to the Additional Information Section and
add your Professional details:

Location/Research Institute/University
Current occupation or course of study
Research Interests
MSc/PhD Thesis
Publications/Presentations

Your Location, Occupation and Research Interests will appear
on the Members List (http://www.oceanographers.net/forums/memberlist.php?). So Please add it as soon as possible
This will also help everyone in finding out members with similar research interests.

Search in Members List. Members List -> Search Members -> Advanced Search.
eg. giving 'model' in 'Research Interests' will return all users who have entered
modeling/modelling in their research interests.

Most of other functionalities of this website are provided in the FAQ (http://www.oceanographers.net/forums/faq.php?)

Some of the additional functions present on this website at the moment
are
1. New Posts -> Displays new posts since you logged in last.
2. Private Messaging -> sending Private Messages/Emails to other users
3. UserCP which lets you modify several options like your message editing
window, time displayed.
4. Subscribing to a forum (thread). If you are in a forum(thread), you have a
button 'Forum tools' (Thread tools). Click on it, you will get option to
update you daily/weekly by email about that forum (thread).
5. Printing a thread article. Click Thread tools -> Show printable version
6. Email a page. Thread tools -> Email this page
7. Search and Advanced Search. You can't avoid this tool!!
8. Members List contains database of members through which you can
communicate with members who may hold similar research interests
9. Search in Members List. Members List -> Search Members -> Advanced Search.
eg. giving 'model' in 'Research Interests' will return all users who have
entered modeling/modelling in their research interests.

BBCode is a set of tags based on the HTML language that you
may already be familiar with.

Using this you can write mathematical symbols, equations etc.

I have added a few bbcodes to the already existing. Examples are
also given. More will be added in future.
If anyone needs any extra tag features, special characters etc,
please mention.
