The 3rd Symposium on Harmful Algae in the US will be held Oct 2-7, 2005, at Asilomar conference grounds near Monterey, California. Monterey is a small, historic city located on the south side of Monterey Bay and is surrounded by natural beauty and nestled among numerous, world-renowned attractions (e.g., http://www.montereyconventionauthority.com). The climate is moderate year-round. Asilomar is convenient to reach by air (Monterey airport via major connections through Los Angeles and San Francisco, etc.), or by car or bus when traveling from San Francisco (~2.5hr) or San Jose (~2hr).
Asilomar is a California State Park and offers rustic accommodations that are set on the shores of Monterey Bay with immediate access to nearby beaches and coastal hiking trails (http://www.asilomarcenter.com). There a wide range of single, double, triple and quad occupancy rooms available with prices ranging from ~$170 to $70/night, 3 meals per day included.
There are also numerous hotels and B&B's to choose from that offer alternative accommodations for those wishing to stay off-site. Participants staying off-site will be required to pay $8/day fee and may also purchase Asilomar meal tickets if they desire.
