PhD Research Scholarship at Macquarie University, Sydney, Australia.

A PhD research scholarship is available in the Department of Physical Geography, Macquarie University, Sydney, Australia. The project will investigate large scale climate variability and ocean productivity using a coupled climate/ocean/ecosystem model. Various climate time scales will be investigated during the course of the PhD candidature. The project will initially focus on the Indo-Pacific Ocean region. It will be desirable to later extend this study into the Southern Ocean and/or Atlantic Ocean regions.

Applicants should have completed, or expect to complete within the year, a four year undergraduate degree in a relevant discipline (Physical Oceanography, Atmospheric Science, Biological Oceanography, Applied Mathematics, Physics) with first class honours, or an equivalent qualification. Competency in University-level mathematics or physics is essential. Previous numerical modelling experience is highly desirable.

The successful applicant if an Australian citizen/permanent resident, or a New Zealand citizen, would receive a RAACE award; the successful applicant if International would receive an iMURS award. The stipend for the award is currently $18,837 per annum, tax exempt, and the tenure is three years full time subject to satisfactory progress.
