Read the news.. If CUSAT starts it, would the Dept. of Physical Oceanography have any role in it? Or would it be a separate center?
Or is it just an idea which will die soon :p !!

until this date no further movement is made on this. we are hoping that it will be in school of marine science campus and our department may also have a role to play in it. Dr. Sajeev, said that it may be a combined center, of different depts.

It is nice to start special care on particular topic
which brings its direct effect to public. We all hope
for its better functionality.
As Dr. Shetye replied to Roxy's email, his first impression (on
seeing a real video clipping of the Tsunami of last days) is
that people at the beach were un-aware of the Tidal bore
approaches them even if they see it. For example, the video
clipping shows a person at beach just standing simply with
out much attention to the approaching piled up water in-front
of him.
Thus the first point (and most easy to do as well) may be
to make aware in public (especially those at the coastal areas) about
the 'physical appearance and approach of Tsunami like waves'.
(along with going into the much details of 'monitoring the wave').

Yesterday i heard from the students of the Dept. of marine geology and geophysics, of CUSAT That the proposed stunami study centre is going to start under the guidance of Dr.Rajendran of that dept. The news is not confirmed officially.

WOnder what could be the role of this center.
The technology is out there.
So what could be done is study how effectively the
warning system can be integrated for the Indian coast.
A networked research center incorporated with the
government stream and the international tech. streams
would result in good applications out there, let me presume!
Otherwise starting a research center just 'cos of this
hullabaloo is folly.
