The Research Center Ocean Margins and the Alfred Wegener Institute for
Polar and Marine Research
offer a PhD position in the field of paleoclimate dynamics. Funding is
through the Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft for 3 years, the salary is
BAT IIa/2. A background in physics, meteorology, oceanography or applied
mathematics is required. Experience in numerical modeling and scientific
computing is helpful.
The responsibility of the doctoral student is to investigate the pattern
of climate variability as obtained by the analyses of proxy data
(corals) and model experiments for the Holocene and Eemian period.
Statistical methods will be applied to identify the structures
associated with the modes documented in reconstructed high-resolution
proxy time series and model experiments. Further information can be
obtained through RCOM http://www.rcom-bremen.de (http://www.rcom-bremen.de/) and the group for
paleoclimate dynamics http://www.awi-bremerhaven.de/Modelling/Paleo/ (http://www.awi-bremerhaven.de/Modelling/Paleo/)
recently established at the AWI.
