Workshop on Tsunami Hazard along the Indian Coast
at Centre for Atmospheric and Oceanic Sciences
Indian Institute of Science, Bangalore 560 012
3-4 August 2005
Scope
Tsunamis are large water waves generated by earthquakes, volcanoes, submarine landslides or a meteorite impact. Tsunamis in the ocean can propagate large horizontal distances, of the order of thousands of kilometers. They can inundate large areas in the coastal belt leading to severe damage to life and property in the coastal region. The aim of this workshop is to bring together researchers, teachers and students to take stock of the educational needs of the country vis a vis tsunamis. The workshop will consist of lectures on earthquake hazard in India and tsunami – its dynamics, modeling and impact in coastal regions.
How to Apply?
Engineering college teachers, students and faculty from educational institutions, scientists and engineers are eligible to apply. Please send a one-page bio-data containing your educational and professional background. Please indicate how the participation in the workshop will benefit you and whether financial assistance is needed to attend the workshop. The participants will be provided accomodation and limited travel support.
There is no registration fee.
