National Institute of Ocean Technology (NIOT) Chennai has been established as
the technical arm of the Department of Ocean Development (DOD),
Government of India with the objective of promoting technology development in
various fields of Ocean Engineering and Ocean Resources, exploration and
exploitation. The major missions of the Institute at present are (1) Ocean
Energy (2) Deep Sea Technologies including Seabed Mining (3) Coastal Zone
and Environmental Engineering (4) Marine Instrumentation and (5) Ocean
Science and Technology for Islands. Amongst the major projects currently
ongoing are Desalination of Sea water, Design and realization of Remotely
Operable Vehicles for Deep Sea Applications, Deep Sea Mining, System
Development for Real Time Sea State Measurements, Coastal Zone
Management etc.
NIOT invites applications from suitable candidates with excellent academic
background and relevant experience in one or more of the following areas. (For
all Scientists posts, Specialization / Experience should be distinctly
indicated in the application form)
• Fixed and floating offshore structures
• Riser and cable dynamics
• Coastal Hydro-dynamics and processes
• Numerical modeling of Ocean Systems/Processes
• Marine Geophysics
• Marine Environmental Engineering
• Oceanographic and hydrographic survey
• Marine Instrumentation for Sea State Measurement and acoustic
instruments
• Electrical, Electronics, communication and controls for marine
applications
• Acoustics for oceanographic application and acoustic propagation
• Ocean Renewable Energy and Desalination systems
• Mechanical design, fabrication, assembly, integration and testing
• Offshore installations
• Gas Hydrates
• Remotely Operable Vehicles for Deep Sea Applications
• Technology Development for Shallow water and deep Sea Mining
The recruitment will be for filling up of existing vacancies for various cadres
and also for operating a panel, discipline-wise for a period of one year from the date of advertisement. The recruitment will be on temporary (regular) /
contract mode for 3 years or the project duration whichever is less. Persons
already in government / semi-government organizations will be considered on
deputation basis subject to government rules. Contract posts may be
regularized (temporary) subsequently based on a performance review.
