The Institut Pierre Simon Laplace pour les Sciences de l¹Environnement
(IPSL, Paris) seeks to hire a Support Scientist. The Scientist will be in
charge, within the Groupe pour l¹Assimilation et les Problèmes Inverses
(GAPI, Group for Assimilation and Inverse Problems) of the development,
validation and maintenance of software pieces for assimilation of
observations, as well as of assistance to the users of those software
pieces. He/she will also liaise between IPSL and several external
projects, in particular the PALM project (CERFACS, Toulouse) of automatic
development of assimilation systems.
Starting date : as soon as possible
Salary : basic monthly salary from 2110 Euros (net salary 1700 Euros),
depending on experience
Duration of the contract : one year, with possible extension
Place of work : Jussieu University Centre, Paris. The Scientist will have
to make regular visits to the various laboratories of IPSL in the Paris
area, as well as to Toulouse (CERFACS).
The first duties of the Support Scientist will be to develop codes for the
ADOMOCA project of assimilation of observations of chemistry of the
stratosphere, and to implement at IPSL automatic compilers for derivation
of tangent linear and adjoint codes.
Required background, experience and skills : doctoral degree or equivalent
level, experience of at least one form of advanced assimilation (Kalman
filter, ensemble assimilation, variational assimilation) is highly
desirable. Good communication skills, and ability for team work.
