Full Professorship (tenure) in Experimental Meteorology
The Department of Physics, Mathematics and Computer Science at the Johannes Gutenberg
University, Mainz (Germany), invites applications for the position of a
Professor of Experimental Meteorology (succession of Prof. R. Jaenicke)
(Bes.Gr. W2 BbesG)
beginning April 1, 2006. The successful candidate will have an outstanding record of
accomplishments in Experimental Meteorology and expertise in one or several of the
following scientific areas: radiative transfer, boundary layer meteorology, measurements of
highly variable trace substances, tropospheric clouds. Collaboration with the colleagues at the
Institute for Atmospheric Physics and the Max Planck Institute for Chemistry is expected, as
well as participation in the German Science Foundation Collaborative Research Centre „The
tropospheric ice phase“. Also desireable would be an interest for the Graduiertenkolleg
„element speciation“ and for the instrumentation and campaign planning of the future German
research aircraft HALO.
Applicants are expected to have a Ph.D., an excellent research record and a strong interest in
and ability for teaching. Lectures are usually given in German. The Johannes Gutenberg
University promotes a concept of intensive tutoring and requests regular presence of the
professors at the university.
Participation in all teaching activities at the Institute for Atmospheric Physics, in the transition
to the Bachelor/Master system and in academic administration duties of the Department is
expected.
