hello,
Vacancies at BODC
We have five vacancies for bright, computer literate scientists willing to take on the challenge of assembling highly diverse and complex data sets from measurements collected by research communities spread across laboratories within the UK and abroad.
The British Oceanographic Data Centre, hosted by the Proudman Oceanographic Laboratory, is part of a world wide network of oceanographic data centres geared to support global, regional and climate-related studies of the world’s oceans. It plays a key role in the UK’s marine research programme and has an international reputation for managing data from large-scale field experiments and for developing innovative data products.
Duties of Posts
You will be involved with the data from one or more national/international projects for which BODC is the designated Project Data Centre. Examples include: a project with international focus to understand climate change in the North Atlantic and the Arctic (RAPID); the UK Argo programme; the IACMST Marine Environmental Data co-ordination; the newly established Liverpool Bay Observatory; the UK Autosub Under Ice missions; and The Proudman Oceanographic Laboratory Science Programmes.
Skills and Qualifications
With a good honours degree and/or a higher degree, preferably in marine science, a physical science or a related subject, you will be self-motivated with well developed computing skills. Good communication, planning and problem solving skills are highly desirable, as is relevant post-graduate experience in handling scientific data. Project management experience would be an advantage.
Conditions of Service
