The main theme of this workshop: “Indonesian and Luzon Throughflows, and Their Marginal Seas: The Global Climate Change Perspectives”.
Many scientists in the world have been drawing their attention to the one of the biggest Earthquake and Tsunami events in the centuries that hit Indonesia in Aceh region and surroundings, Thailand, Srilanka and India. Indonesia experienced the most devastated disaster among others. Considering the present situation, we take the timing of the Workshop on Indonesian Ocean Tsunami 2005 and the 13th PAMS/JECSS (P/J) meeting to promote oceanographers to do something about the tsunami. What we can learn from the event and how we develop the model and their better prediction in the future. This topic together with the issue of Global Climate Change will be the main interest of discussions during the workshop.
12 topics on the section:
Strait Throughflow: Crossroads of Global Climate and Coastal Dynamics (Chaired by Prof. T. Yamagata and Dr. Dwi Susanto).
Indonesian Seas and Indian Ocean Related Issues to Regional Climate Changes (Chaired by Prof. Arnold L. Gordon and Dr. Y. Masumoto).
Lessons learned from Tsunami Aceh and Their Implications to the Society (Chaired by Prof. B.H. Choi and Prof. Siripong).
Tsunami Modeling and Prediction (Chaired by Dr. Tony Song).
Studies of the Western Pacific Ocean and Ocean Models (Chaired by Prof. T. Yanagi and Dr. Agus Supangat).
Studies of the Japan/East Sea (Chaired by Prof. K. Kim and Dr. Vladimir I. Ponomarev).
Coastal Ocean and Monitoring Technology (Prof. A. Kaneko and Prof. Cho Teng Liu).
