Post Doctoral Researcher – Coastal Hydrodynamics

Fixed Term 2 years
NIWA, Christchurch, New Zealand

NIWA is a leading environmental research institute and a key provider of atmospheric,freshwater and marine research in New Zealand. The position will involve working on issues related to coastal ocean and estuarine hydrodynamics, natural hazards, sediment transport,turbulence and mass transfer processes in aquatic systems.

Your main responsibilities will be to model coastal and estuarine circulation, tides, long waves (including tsunami) and solute/particulate transport; and to coordinate and maintain the field measurement programmes including analyzing and interpreting the data received. You would be expected to author journals and conference papers
and work on commercial consultancy projects delivering client reports and presentations.

You should have a PhD in Physical Oceanography or related field. You will need to have experience in modelling coastal and/or estuarine hydrodynamics, have experience in data processing and analysis, and possess computer programming skills.

To be successful you will have clear and concise communication skills, be conscientious and have a proactive approach to problem solving. You will need to demonstrate your ability to interact and communicate positively with a wide range of people and be adaptable with a commitment to meeting client needs whilst balancing research commitments.
