Postdoctoral position in chemical paleo-oceanography at IfM-GEOMAR, Leibniz Institute for Marine Sciences in Kiel:
Candidates with a Ph.D. in Geology, Chemistry or other related fields are sought for a postdoctoral position in chemical paleo-oceanography for 3 years. Preference will be given to candidates with experience in isotope geochemistry (multiple collector ICPMS or TIMS) and who want to pursue or have already pursued research in paleo-oceanography. The projects will be aimed at the reconstruction of past ocean circulation and weathering inputs into the ocean on various time scales applying radiogenic isotope systems (Nd, Pb, Hf). The IfM-GEOMAR is equipped with several state of the art mass spectrometers, such as a Multi-Collector ICPMS, two TIMS, facilities for stable oxygen and carbon isotope analysis, laboratories and all essential equipment for paleo-oceanographic research. The successful candidate is expected to contribute to teaching in chemical paleo-oceanography, maintenance of the lab and supervision of Ph.D. students.
The institute aims at increasing the number of women in reasearch and teaching and specifically encourages women to apply. Women will be preferentially employed if their qualifications are equal to those of male candidates. Handicapped applicants will also be employed preferentially if their qualifications are similar to those of other candidates.
Salary scale is according to German BATII/a.
Further details can be obtained from Prof. Dr. Martin Frank, E-Mail: mfrank@ifm-geomar.de (mfrank@ifm-geomar.de).
Applications containing the usual documentation and a list of publications should be sent until 15th March 2005 to the following address mentioning the keyword: "Radiogenic Proxies":
