The Southampton Oceanography Centre is to be renamed the National Oceanography Centre, Southampton, in a bid to gain international recognition as the focus for oceanography in the UK. Long back someone told me that when NIO started in India,
there was an NIO in UK which changed its name. Dont know
much details abt it. Any idea?

Here our Grad. School of Environmental Earth Sciences(EES) is changing its
name to Earth Sciences this year. Here it is heard names are changed
once in a while, starting as new centers. This also helps in getting more
funds from the government as part of initialising a new center.
Otherwise you get only funds for running it.
