Hello all,
10 leading scientists chosen for Bhatnagar Awards[/B][/COLOR][/SIZE] New Delhi (PTI): Ten leading scientists from across the country were on Friday chosen for the prestigious Shanti Swarup Bhatnagar Awards 2008.
Ravinder Goswami of All India Institute of Medical Sciences, Delhi and Jaikumar Radhakrishnan of Tata Institute of Fundamental Research Mumbai have bagged the awards in the fields of Medical and Mathematical sciences respectively.
Ranjan Kumar Mallik of Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Delhi and P N Vinayachandran of Indian Institute of Science, Bangalore will receive the award for their contribution to Engineering Sciences and Earth, Atmospheric, Ocean and Planetary Sciences respectively.
In biological sciences, G P S Raghava of Institute of Microbial Technology, Chandigarh and L S Shashidhara of Centre for Cellular and Molecular Biology, Hyderabad have been chosen for the prize.
Pradeep Thalappil of IIT Madras and Jarugu Narasimha Moorthy of IIT Kanpur will get the award for their contribution to the field of Chemical sciences.
Raghunathan Srianand of the Inter-University Centre for Astronomy and Astrophysics, Pune and Srikanth Sastry of Jawaharlal Nehru Centre for Advanced Scientific Research, Bangalore will receive the award for their contribution to Physical Sciences.
The Bhatnagar awards, announced by CSIR Director General Samir Brahamachari, will be given away by Prime Minister Manmohan Singh at a function at a later date.
The awards are given to scientists below 45 years of age and comprise a citation, a plaque and a Rs. 5 lakh purse
