KOCHI, JAN. 4. Sagar Sampada, the scientific research vessel of the country, is to conduct a 15-day-long cruise along the east and west coasts to assess the impact of the tsunami.

I heard some scientists from NIO, Goa are already on cruise to study impact
on the tsunami. Any information regarding this?

what praveen said is true.. FORV Sagar Sampada is on its way yeasterday eve for a coastal cruise to study the impacts of Tsunami. the Chief Scientist is Dr.R.Damodaran, CUSAT. 5 students of NIO, Kochi and 5 from CUSAT is also participating.
the other important thing is that, since SS cant get more coastla, our group leaded by Dr. C.Revichandran and Mr.Kesavadas of NIO Kochi, is having coastal data collection from Vizhinjam, Kollam, Alapuzha, Kochi, Ponnani, Kozhikode and Kannur. we are all in the group and now already finished first three stations...
I will be informing you about the improvements...

One of the research vessels FORV Sagar Sampada already started her voyage to study the Tsunami impact on Indian coasts.
One group from NIO-Kochi has completed their survey along the south Kerala coast up to a depth of 20m in hired boat.
Today the team started towards north Kerala that will cover Kozhikode, Kannur and Ponnani.
In the meanwhile, the other vessel Sagar Kanya is starting her sailing for the same study. The leader of the group is Dr. Anil Kumar.N, who is the scientist of NCOAR.

This is a news came in Malayalam daily 'Mathrubhumi'. this is a news about Anil Kumar.N, Scientist NCAOR, who is leading the Sagar Kanya Cruise.
Sorry its only in malayalam, please excuse me for that...
He was working in NIO as Research assosiate before he joins NCAOR.

Subject: NIO Teams on visit to tsunami affected areas

Teams of scientists from NIO belonging to various disciplines are visiting tsunami affected regions in Tamil Nadu and Kerala. They would conduct post-tsunami reconnaissance investigations to understand the nature and impact of the tsunami on physical, geological and ecological aspects of the coastal regions of India. These studies are expected to be helpful in enhancing our preparedness for facing such hazards in the future.

The team that has already left from NIO RC(Kochi) consists of V Kesava Das, C Ravichandran, Tony Thottam, PR Vijayan, K Kumaran, K Sivaraman Nair, Thressiamma Joseph, O Raveendran backed up by Project Fellows Sathesh SP, Abdul Rasheed KA, Abhilash KS, A Biju, Lalu Raj CM, Shaiju P, GD Martin, Aneesh, Jomon Xavier, P Sabu, P Anand, and P Sheeba, Jayaraj, Asha devi, Martin GD, Mebhis Mathew, VP Rao from HQ would join this team soon.

From Headquarters another team consisting of D Ilangovan, Mani Murali, M Kocheria, GC Bhattacharya, backed up by GS Michael, R Gowthaman, R Alagarsamy, G Parthiban, Gurudas Tirodkar, Mahesh Mochemadkar has left.

Besides, S Jayakumar, Shridhar Iyer, MV Ramana, backed up by P Ganesan, Ganesh Naik, BRL Rao, GS Michael, Umesh Shirsat would also depart soon.

its not so late to joke on it (me too didnt took it serious). its according POST-TSUNAMI SURVEY FIELD GUIDE published by IOC (UNESCO). its been said in that guide that

SECTION I: BEFORE THE FIELD SURVEY
Organize and dispatch the survey team as quickly and effectively as possible. It is better to conduct the surveys in the damaged areas one to two weeks (but not later) after the tsunami, to ensure that:
1) rescue operations are not disturbed;
2) transportation and work is safe;
3) immediate secondary triggered disasters do not interfere.
