PhD Studentship
School of Biological Sciences/The Swire Institute of Marine Science, The University of Hong Kong
PhD positions are available to study “Ecological Developmental Biology” – the development of embryo/larvae/juveniles of marine organisms in the real world (which includes larval dispersal, molecular plasticity and behavior).
Requirements: We are seeking talented, enthusiastic and creative young researchers with a strong commitment to molecular ecology research. Excellent communication skills (in English), both oral and written, are essential. Previous research experience in molecular biology and/or aquatic ecology is advantageous.
Qualifications: We prefer candidates with a Master’s degree in marine science; biochemistry or zoology or related subjects. Applicants with a 1st Class (or Upper Second) BSc Hons degree may also be considered. PhD studentships are for 3-4 years and available from August 2008. Further information about studentship can be obtained from http://www.hku.hk/rss/pp2007/content.html (http://www.hku.hk/rss/pp2007/content.html)
For further information about HKU please visit http://hku.hk (http://hku.hk). The HKU is ranking at 18 among the top 200 universities in the world. Our lab is a member of the School of Biological Sciences (http://www.hku.hk/biosch/ (http://www.hku.hk/biosch/)). Students will be based at the Swire Institute of Marine Science (http://www.hku.hk/swims/ (http://www.hku.hk/swims/)), a unique research facility situated within Hong Kong’s only Marine Reserve. As such students will be exposed to a diverse, vibrant and interdisciplinary research environment. Students in our group will receive training in many aspects of molecular ecology, developmental biology and coastal ecology.
Please send CV, a statement outlining your interest (with evidence) in ecological developmental biology/molecular marine ecology, and a brief description of research experience to vtraj@ust.hk (vtraj@ust.hk).
