Post-Doc/ Junior Scientist
CMCC (Centro Euro-Mediterraneo per i Cambiamenti Climatici) is a Consortium consisting of different Italian public and private research institutions dedicated to climate-related research. The activities of the Group “extreme events and regionalization” (a part of Numerical Application and Scenarios – ANS - Division), located in Lecce, Italy, are focused on regional climate modelling and analysis of climate extremes in model simulations.
The group is now seeking the following positions at the Postdoctoral or Junior Scientist:
Regional climate modelling: simulation of regional climate for the Mediterranean region in future climate scenarios. The research activity will be based mainly on the use of a regional climate model and the analysis of its results.
Extreme events: analysis of climate scenario simulations for the identification of extreme precipitation events and extremes of the hydrological cycle. The research will be based on the development of statistical tools and their application to the analysis of existing datasets.
The successful applicants will have a Ph.D. or equivalent experience in disciplines related to Earth System Sciences. Experience in theoretical and numerical modeling of the atmospheric and/or oceanic circulation is very desirable. A good background in applied mathematics, technical coding and proficiency in written and spoken English are also required.
The initial appointments are for one year, renewable up to two years, at an annual salary of 24K comprehensive of benefits. Applicants should send a short research proposal (maximum one page) with reference to the position(s) of interest, a comprehensive curriculum vitae, and the names and addresses of three referees.
Applications should send by electronic mail to:
Prof. Piero Lionello

University of Salento,
Dep. of Material Science
Via per Monteroni
Lecce
Applications received before 15 March 2008 will be given full consideration.
