We invite applications for a 3-year position as a PhD student in chemical oceanography. The candidate will work in the project “Anthropogenic Carbon, CFC-12 and SF6 in the Tropical Atlantic”.
It is expected that the candidate will participate in sea-going expeditions to the Tropical Atlantic as well as conduct laboratory experiments and measurements in Kiel. The candidate is expected to conduct critical quality control of the data and use the data to estimate uptake and storage of anthropogenic carbon. The candidate is also expected to develop modelling approaches to estimate upwelling rates using SF6/CFC-12 data.

A qualification comparable to a Master's degree or Diploma in chemistry or physics is required. Experience in analytical chemistry and data evaluation is desirable. We also expect good English language skills, and willingness to participate in expeditions with durations of several weeks.

Employment will be at the Leibniz Institute of Marine Sciences Kiel in the Research Division of Marine Biogeochemistry. Salary will be according to the German civil service class E13 TV-L/2.
