Several positions in Marine Biogeochemical Paleo Modeling
In the framework of the Excellence-Cluster ‘The Future Ocean’ at the
University of Kiel, Germany, several positions in the field of marine
biogeochemical modeling are available for PhD-students, postdocs and a
scientific programmer.
The aim of the newly established junior research group (JRG A4, Ocean
Circulation and Paleo Modeling) is to study climate variability with
relevance to the global carbon cycle and climate change on time scales
from the early holocene over the present into the anthropocene. In
particular, ocean circulation and the atmospheric hydrological cycle
will be investigated using state of the art
atmosphere-ocean-biogeochemical climate models in combination with paleo
proxy reconstructions.
For all positions a background (Diploma, M.Sc. or PhD) in physics,
mathematics, geosciences or a related field as well as good programming
skills (FORTRAN) are required. Experience in the use and development of
climate biogeochemical models, good oral and written communication
skills and the interest to work in a highly interdisciplinary,
international working team are expected.
The positions will be awarded for two years (PhD for three years) with
the possibility to be extended for another year, starting dates are as
soon as possible. Salaries are according to the German tariffs for
public employees at the level E 13 TV-L. The University of Kiel is an
equal opportunity employer and encourages females scientists and
scientists with disabilities to apply.
Interested candidates should send a written application including a
cover letter, cv, short statement of research interests and names and
contact information of at least two referees before December 15, 2007,
to Prof. Dr. Birgit Schneider, Institute for Geosciences, University of
Kiel, 24098 Kiel, Germany. For further questions and information please
