2 PhD Scholarships to study Wind Forcing of SurfZones, Queensland, Australia

The Griffith School of Engineering at Griffith University (Gold Coast Campus) and the School of Engineering at The University of Queensland (Brisbane) is offering 2 PhD Scholarships to study the "Contribution of surf zone wind stress to storm surge inundation" commencing January 2008 for a period of 3 years. Both students will be involved in extensive field data collection at our Gold Coast field site. The Gold Coast based student will focus on wind stress and wave setup forcing. The Brisbane based student will focus on wave transformation and the shape of the surf zone free surface profile which will be used to design and run wind tunnel experiments.

Applications are sought from first and upper second class honours graduates in engineering or science. High achieving applicants (GPA > 6) will be encouraged to apply for an Australian Postgraduate Award by October 31st which would then be topped up to a total of AUD$30k pa (tax free).
