Oceanographic Research and Software Engineering
We invite applications for an oceanographic research and software engineering position involving ocean general circulation and ocean bio-geochemical modeling. Areas of particular interest include development of community software for use in climate earth system models pertaining to the shared use of bio-geochemical components. The work will involve using several different general circulation models in use at GFDL/NOAA (MOM4 and GOLD), MIT (MITgcm), FSU and NRL (HYCOM), WHOI and UCLA (ROMS); familiarity with one or more of these models will be advantageous. The successful candidate will join a vigorous research environment and will be able to take advantage of a wide range of ongoing climate related activities both at Princeton and at GFDL/NOAA.
The successful applicant will join the ocean modeling group (http://www.gfdl.noaa.gov/research/ocean/) to work with Alistair Adcroft in the AOS Program (http://www.aos.princeton.edu/PostDoc.html) and with Robert Hallberg and Stephen Griffies at GFDL/NOAA. This is a multi-institute collaborative project and extended travel to other participating institutes may be required as part of the project. Collaborators include Dennis McGillicuddy and Scott Doney at WHOI, Woods Hole, MA; Eric Chassignet at Florida State Univ., Tallahassee, FL; Alan Wallcraft at NRL, Stennis Space Center, MS; and Jim McWilliams at UCLA, Los Angeles, CA. A master’s degree is required in areas such as oceanography, physics, computational ecosystem studies, or computer science. Ph.D is strongly desired. Applicants are asked to send a curriculum vitae, a statement of research experience and interests, and the names and contact information (phone, e-mail and address) of at least three references by October 15, 2007 to Anna Valerio (apval@Princeton.edu), Princeton University, Atmospheric and Oceanic Sciences Program, 205 Sayre Hall, 300 Forrestal Road, Princeton, NJ 08540, USA. We will begin reviewing applications on October 1st, and continue until the position is filled. Princeton University is an Equal Opportunity/Affirmative Action employer. For general information about applying to Princeton University please see http://web.princeton.edu/sites/dof/applicantsInfo.htm.
