can anyone provide me some literature on importance of heat advection in ocean MLD variability.

TOGA/COARE project is exclussively for studying surface fluxes and mixed layer processes
in the tropical oceans. If you trace through TOGA/COARE publications
you may find several papers published on the mixed layer processes
in TOGA COARE IOP (intense observation period) (the above one is an
example).

they were really useful. But i could find very little or almost no work particularly in the (north) Indian Ocean which is the region of my interest.

Have you refered to our Bibliography section? If not, it is in this
direction. Note and Links -> Bibliography .

There, publications are sorted by regions.

One example is, Prasad and Ikeda have published a series of 3 papers
in J.G.R. on Mixed layer depth variability of Arabian sea and watermass formations.
They have investigated, at first, on the one dimensional mixing, and
later, on the role of advection on the MLD variablity.

You may find the citation from our Bibliography section.
