Has anyone used matlab for SOMs. I would be glad to get a matlab code used for it using som_make and also the one for mapping and contouring the SOMs.
Thanks

I havent used SOMs but have you checked the som toolbox:
http://www.cis.hut.fi/projects/somtoolbox/
and details of the functions at:

Self-Organizing Map is a very useful tool of pattern recognition and feature extraction. I have applied SOM to a series of oceanographic data analyses: moored ADCP currents, HF radar current data, satellite SST, SSH, and numerical model results, etc. A summary is provided in this link: http://ocg17.marine.usf.edu/~liu/som.html (http://ocg17.marine.usf.edu/%7Eliu/som.html).
In particular, I'd like to mention the performance evaluation of the SOM in extracting time series of some known patterns, which has been published in JGR-Oceans as Liu et al. [2006] (http://www.agu.org/pubs/crossref/2006/2005JC003117.shtml).
