The European Graduate College at the Geoscience Department, University of Bremen (Germany) in co-operation with the "Netherlands Research School of Sedimentary Geology" (NSG) at the University of Utrecht (The Netherlands) and the Free University Amsterdam (The Netherlands) as well as with the Université de Bordeaux (France), Southampton Oceanography Centre (U.K.) and the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (U.S.A.)
offers 14 PhD Positions

for a maximum period of three years from February 01, 2005 subject to the definite consent by the German Research Foundation (DFG).
Within the European Graduate College an integrated research and educational programme will be carried out by close collaboration of the participating institutes. Research activities within the College comprise the following disciplines (in alphabetic order):
Isotope Geochemistry
Marine Geochemistry
Marine Geology
Micropalaeontology
Organic geochemistry
Palaeo/Environmental Magnetism
Palaeoceanographic Modelling
Palaeoceanography
Palaeoclimatology
Palaeoecology
Palynology
Sedimentology
Work and studies of the PhD students will include a 6 months visit to the respective Dutch, British, French and/or American partner institute. Studies and scientific work in the European Graduate College will be carried out with a strong scientific focus within a dense network between the projects. Focus lies on development, testing and validating proxies for periods and/or regions that are characterised by extreme climates or environments and times of major abrupt change;
Modern environments
Late Quaternary glacial optima and deglaciation events
Major Neogene glaciation phases
Late Cretaceous anoxic event 3.
